Our Nurturing Faculty & Lowest Children-Faculty Ratios

With the lowest ratios around, our teachers spend time with each child individually, helping them through their transitions and growth so that they can take their development to the next level and create a nurturing environment to take new risks in trying new things.

Our Highest Standards of Cleanliness

With young children, we understand that cleanliness is one of our parents' highest priorities.  Our facilities are professionally cleaned daily. On top of that, we disinfect infant toys and equipment throughout each day, and we disinfect preschool toys and equipment at least twice each week. And we don't stop there!  We take the opportunity that we are open on the weekends but only have one classroom in use to deep clean the facilities, as well as prepare for the next week's lesson plans.  This includes sterilization of toys in our NSF certified dishwasher, surface dusting and disinfecting with our UV cleaning equipment, cleaning of outdoor areas, and cleaning under furniture and along baseboards.

Our Engaging Educational Experience

Our facilities and curriculum provide a more stimulating environment and enriching experiences than your average preschool.  Our curriculum follows a high scope (plan-do-review format) and discovery-driven methodology with the project themes, circle discussions, and learning centers being unified around discovering a new part of the world every two weeks.  The children are immersed in the theme as they decorate the room to resemble the place they are "visiting", dance to the music and dress up in clothing of that culture, learn about academic subjects that relate to the country, and much more!  For example, when the pre-k class visits the Galapagos, the classroom become the island,;they learn about adaptations through hands-on simulation activities in the science center; they listen to music from the Galapagos; meet a real live giant tortoise; create their own creature in the small group project and discuss its adaptations; and so much more.  Our goal is to familiarize young children with complex concepts through empirical activities. By introducing these concepts at a young age empirically, the children will be able to better grasp them theoretically as their brains develop further in later years. Because we learn about concepts that are often not addressed until higher grade levels, children that are advanced in any given area have plenty of room to explore the concepts further, and because our daily lesson plans are structure in such an engaging manner, children that are on the younger end of the class never feel left out or bored. By the time your child graduates Discovery World, your child will have built a Rube-Goldburg machine, started a business, "visited" countries around the world, invented their own country, and have incredible self-help skills - just to name a few!  In addition to their invaluable experiences and insights, our graduates excel in academics as well; they can read, write, add, subtract, and they understand advanced quantitative, scientific, and social concepts such as less/greater than and sets, buoyancy, the different roles and systems in a community, and how the cultures they study are similar and different.

Our Solid Educational Framework

Our parents find that their values, philosophies, and missions align with ours. Our core values, philosophy, and mission guide our methodology (how we teach) and our curriculum and lesson plans (what we teach). Throughout the year, we gather feedback from our students, teachers, and parents to make ongoing improvements to our educational framework. Our Ongoing Parent Involvement

Our Parent-Teacher Organization plans events that support our curriculum and bring families together such as Family Days and Education Seminars, as well as aids the school in its mission of ongoing improvement.  Family Days are optional monthly weekend field trips to destinations that compliment the area of study during that month.  This gives parents the opportunity to socialize with other parents in their child’s class, enjoy a day with their child, and provide guidance on ways to extend their child's learning and development beyond the classroom.  Education Seminars are held at the school during after-school hours for parents who desire to learn ways to teach advanced topics to their children in an age-appropriate manner.

Our Effective Parent Communication

We want share your child's experience with you, so we keep you informed each and every day about your child's experiences and development.  From written daily reports to parent-teacher conferences to developmental portfolios that follow your child's growth through there years here, we keep you in the loop. Furthermore, as a parent, we strongly believe that you should have the ability to observe your child any time you desire. This is not the case with all schools, but here, you are more than welcome to sit in on classes with us anytime.

Our Director & Faculty Teaching Credentials

Sheryl Austin, our owner and director has a Bachelors Degree in Child Development and Credentials and a Masters Degree in Special Education.  Prior to founding Discovery World She is at Discovery World 5-7 days each week ,and she is always open to suggestions, concerns, or questions about your child’s development.  Because we have been in business for over twenty years, we have had the pleasure of enriching the lives of hundreds of children.

Our Commitment to Quality

Our Director, Faculty, and Parent-Teacher Organization continuously evaluate our curriculum and methodology to make improvements.  Unlike schools that are bound to static systems by dated methodologies, Discovery World can remain flexible and continuously update its structure as new advances are made in child development and psycology. We are here to enrich your child’s life and prepare them for their future.  By developing a curriculum that introduces advanced concepts in a manner that a young child can understand, we provide an exciting curriculum that will take your child to new levels.  We have seen concept development in our children that most preschoolers do not normally get.

In addition, our directors and administrators observe the faculty daily to provide them with structured, written feedback so that they can continuously improve their teaching methods. Our strong feedback and support system enables our teachers to excel in early childhood education.  We do not know of another school that takes this strong an interest in the quality of their program.

Our Attention to Detail

All the little things count! We pay attention to details, taking the themes to their limits and your childs imagination along with them.  We even offer a healthy, homemade school lunch program that coincides with the country we are studying.  With over twenty years of experience with children, we know how to select recipies that are child appropriate, nutritious - using organic food when possible, and fun to eat. Our lunch program is served family style and we teach the children how to use their utensils, passing food, serving themselves, and table etiquet.

Our Interactive Website

Coming soon! Our website will feature parent account that allow parents to have access to their childs portfolio and teacher comments online, as well as provide a forum for parents to discuss important child development topics, meetup groups, and monthly take home activities for parents to do with their children that coincide with what their child is learning in school.

Our Discovery World Meetup Group

Discovery World received feedback from our Parent-Teacher Organization that it was difficult for parents to both figure out enriching activities to do with their children and make plans with other parents in their child's classes.  The outcome of this discussion was the formation of the Discovery World Meetup Group where parents can post activities to do with other families at any time.

Our Informative Parent Education Meetings

Discovery World holds parent education meetings to inform parents on a variety of subjects such as effective discipline and how to educate their children through play.  Each meeting is tailored to the interests of our current parent body.
